Archaic Decapitator - "The Apothecary"
Archaic Decapitator - “The Apothecary”
This Connecticut technical/melodic death metal group has been melting our faces since 2007 and now 12 years later- on April 19, 2019, they will have yet another great hit. Let us get started- as soon as the album begins, in such a short time after the intro; the talent explodes with impenetrable heaviness, insanely technical solos, and hard-hitting drums that feel like they are going through your chest. On this new album titled “The Apothecary” they have added Gary Marotta (Xenosis) along with new rhythm guitarist Chris Ridley, who delivers their unique sound and it shines through in every song. You can hear the hard work, emotion, and talent penetrating through your eardrums. Each member plays so well together that it flows perfectly plus bringing light to the keys which give us an epic medieval vibe (I would totally play this album while riding into battle).
After the build-up, it slams into track 2 called “Skyward” with its heavy hooks and speedy riffs that keep your attention going throughout the whole album, next thing you know you are listening to it 4 or 5 times. The next track brings back much focus on the lead guitarist, Yegor Savonin (Fires in the Distance) and his effective solo riding along with vocalist Kyle Quintin (Fires in the Distance, ex-Formless) and his explosive singing. My personal favorite is track 4 called “Diminishing Returns” that yet again reals in the sweeping guitar, deep howels of the vocals, and quick hitting drums. It is impressive how smooth the sound is followed by some light keys transitioning into the final song titled “The Apothecary,” the crushing display of power in the song ends the album well. Archaic Decapitator continues to contribute undoubtedly to the melodic death metal genre, and I can't wait for more to come, possibly a tour is in the works?
This compact album has everything we need in it, and here with Heavy Metal History Podcast, we couldn't pass up a chance to give it a 8/10 star review. Definitely give it a listen when it drops newly on April 19, 2019, available music streaming apps!
